Ten Mile River Watershed, Massachusetts, USA
Sharing ideas on how to "green" the local economy in the Ten Mile River Watershed bioregion in southeastern Massachusetts.
The Ten Mile River Watershed Council has been busy the last few months cleaning up the watershed. June is a time to relax and enjoy the work that we've been doing. On june 2, we will be leading a relaxing paddle on Central Pond. We will meet on the bridge between Central Pond and Turner Reservoir on route 152 on the Seekonk/East Providence border at 11 am. We will explore some coves and the historic marker known as Thumb Rock. We will get out of the boats and walk a short wooded trail. There are a limited number of boats for rent. To register, email ktggroup@aol.com.
On june 17, we will be hosting our Father's Day Paddle. We will meet at the Pawtucket Country Club at 10:00 am for registration. We will paddle along the Ten Mile River into Central Pond. After the paddle, we will enjoy refreshments at Kim Rock Field in East Providence. A limited number of boats are available for rent. To register, email ktggroup@aol.com.
We will hold our third annual Summer Solstice Hike on june 20 at Seekonk Meadows. We will meet at Seekonk Library at 6:15 pm for registration and the hike will begin promptly at 6:30. We will walk a little known trail through Seekonk Meadows and the Charles Mararian Farm. The trail offers good views of Gameno and Central Ponds and some cellar holes being taken over by forest. This walk is just under two miles with some up and down, so wear sturdy shoes and bring water. As always, bug spray will be provided. For more information, email hiking@tenmileriver.net. Don Doucette recently delivered a slide presentation on the history, geography, and natural features of the Ten Mile River Watershed at the annual meeting of the Attleboro Land Trust. Don's presentation included many old postcards with views of the watershed dating back to the early twentieth century. The local cable provider AACS recorded Don's presentation and it can be viewed here.
